Happy Valentine’s Day! As today is the day of love, I thought it would be a great time to share some thoughts on the importance of loving yourself.

I am extremely fortunate to be surrounded by love! My children are very huggy (is that a word?) and super affectionate with their words. In fact, so is my hubby 😉 . I feel so much love in my marriage and my home overall. Then there’s my parents, my brother and the list goes on. This all sounds rosy but not so long ago, I realized that there was one person that wasn’t loving me enough. Yep, you guessed it, me!

I am such a family-oriented person so I always want to give them my all. However, it recently became clear to me that I was forgetting myself. I was so caught up with taking care of the kids, supporting my husband, running the household, organizing and planning our lives, business concerns, etc. that I didn’t realize that I was slowly losing myself. This year, I made a pact with myself to pay more attention to me! This is actually one of the main reasons I decided to start this blog.

At first I felt a little selfish. I would have to sacrifice some time doing for my loved ones in order to make time for me. But the truth is that’s ok! The same way you want the best for them, those who love you want you to be your best self. They want you to be happy, healthy and fulfilled. Remember, this is your life too! Your life doesn’t pause while you take care of others; you don’t get that time back! So it’s important to make sure, on a daily basis, that you are living to the fullest. No one wants to look back and be filled with regret.

Ok, I’m done on my soap box now. Well, almost. But seriously, sometimes you just have to say NO, ignore the chaos around you, walk away from the negativity and focus on You! Whether your goals are to workout 3 times/week, to successfully work for yourself, travel the world or anything in between, it all starts with you loving yourself and being intentional about your thoughts and actions. And even if your goals are more about others than yourself, you can’t effectively help anyone if you are not in a good place mentally and physically. In the long run, whatever positive improvements you make/steps you take in your life, they will most likely end up having a positive impact on your family and friends. It ends up being a Win-Win!

So let’s use this day of Love as a reminder to take care of ourselves, not only our bodies and our minds, but also our dreams and desires! No more excuses. Take action today.
